Reflections on the Critical Chemicals Alliance Process

Having contributed directly to the work of the Critical Chemicals Alliance throughout its first working cycle, notably through our participation in WG1 and WG4, Futerro, together with fellow Alliance members (Avantium, Biobased Circular, European Bioplastics, Groene Chemie, Lowell Center for Sustainable Production, Renewable Carbon Initiative, ), is sharing a number of recommendations to help strengthen the Alliance’s effectiveness, inclusiveness, and long-term impact in its next phase.

We call for:

  • Greater recognition of renewable and sustainable carbon pathways, including bio-based, recycled-carbon and CO₂-based feedstocks
  • A more balanced representation across the value chain
  • A clearer and more traceable working process
  • Stronger coordination between the working groups
  • Closer links between the work of the CCA, relevant EU policy processes, and concrete policy outputs
